Marshall EH-1 Echohead review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

With the Marshall EH-1 Echohead, you get a compact pedal offering a robust range of delay effects at a reasonable price. Its versatility shines with six delay modes, from digital to psychedelic, making it suitable for diverse musical styles. The pedal's design is sturdy, with user-friendly features like a coin-accessible battery panel. However, the analogue simulation might not satisfy purists seeking that authentic vintage sound. While it doesn’t quite match the high-end quality of some competitors, its affordability and flexibility make it a solid choice for most players looking for varied delay options.

Very versatile Delay pedal

It has several modes, all of them are useful. It has enormous delay time (2000ms) and 6 different modes to choose from. The only thing it doesn't do is self-oscilation, but you can get very nice delay sounds out of it. My favourite is the Tape-Echo setting which is very nice for short slapback kind of sounds like you find in oldschool rock and roll and surf music. And it can be found relatively cheap on the used market. Get one before they get more expensive.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Clean channel: Treble 4 Mid 8.5 Bass 7 Guitar: Epiphone LP Junior '57 Reissue with P90 Signal Chain: Guitar -> Boss NS-2(send) -> Marshall BB-2 -> Boss DS-1 -> Boss ST-2 -> Boss NS-2(return/output) -> Boss CH-1 -> Marshall EH-1 -> Boss TU3 -> Fender FM 100H

A lot of modes, no self-oscillation

This pedal means a lot fun for tinkerers. Many delay modes (including reverse delay and tape echo simulation) plus up to 2 seconds of delay time. However, if someone is looking for self-oscillation, this pedal won't give you what you need. OK, you can dial something that CAN be decribed as self-oscillation, but the overall result is definitely not satisfactory. Anyone, a good one!

if you don't need tap tempo just pony up for the recent mxr carbon copy and be done with it.

Brilliant Pedal

The Echohead pedal is a stereo delay pedal offering a maximum delay time of 2000ms. From crystal clear echoes to hypnotic reverse delays via the vintage whir of an old tape machine the Echohead recreates six different delay modes for you to explore giving you full control over the delay time, feedback and level of every mode. The Echohead's dual outputs offer the choice of using a passive bypass for the main signal path to ensure complete tonal integrity or allowing the pedal to spill-over allowing your echoes to naturally die away. Combined the outputs create a stereo ping-pong effect creating a wide dynamic field. Below is a complete run down of the Echohead's features for your information. We have also enclosed a number of suggested settings to help guide you. It should be remembered that these are only suggested settings and you should really experiment as much as possible.

Versatile but occasionally unreliable

Half a dozen echo effects, all useful including modulated echo (sound goes muffled as it repeats and dies away) and backwards echo (good psychedelic effect!). Casing built like a tank. It has occasionally seized up - that is, you can still hear the guitar but the echo effect has vanished completely. Powering down and up again cures it. Good bang for your buck - I suspect there are better but you would pay twice as much for them.
