Description

DigiTech Whammy DT is the ultimate pitch-shifting effects pedal that every guitarist needs in their arsenal. This pedal enhances your performance by allowing you to modify your tuning without pausing or changing guitars, keeping your audience engaged. It has been the core pitch-shifting effect for renowned artists for over two decades.

The key features of the Whammy DT are its unique Drop Tune and True Bypass capabilities. The Drop Tune allows you to step up or down in 7 half steps or an entire octave with just one setting, adding full drop and raised tuning to the classic Whammy shifting. The True Bypass ensures your signal passes through the pedal unaltered when the effect is off.

With the Whammy DT, you also get a momentary footswitch for hammer-on and pull-off effects. This feature enables you to create instant chord shifts or note changes during your performance. From polyphonic harmonizing to detuning effects, the Whammy DT is the perfect addition to your music gear.

Key Features:

  • Drop Tune - Modify your tuning by stepping up or down 7 half steps or an entire octave.
  • True Bypass - Ensures the pedal does not alter the signal when the effect is off.
  • Classic Whammy effects - Used by famous artists for over 20 years.
  • Momentary footswitch - Instantly create hammer-on and pull-off effects.
  • Robust and road-friendly metal housing - Built to withstand the rigours of touring.
  • MIDI-capable with a sampling rate of 22 kHz - Allows for complex and precise effects.
  • 24-Bit A/D D/A conversion - Ensures a high-quality signal.

  • Slight high-pitch noise in certain settings, though manageable with a noise suppressor

  • Hearing the unprocessed string sound alongside the effect can be confusing without headphones

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about DigiTech Whammy DT.

Features and functionality

  • The Whammy DT can perform two pitch shifts separately or in series, allowing for complex effects like octaves into detune, akin to a 12-string guitar sound.

    Source
  • The DT includes a Momentary mode for temporary pitch shifts, a feature desired by some owners of the Whammy V.

    Source
  • The Whammy V offers a tighter processing latency in CLASSIC mode for small pitch shifts, while the DT's CHORDS mode excels in polyphonic stability but with more latency.

    Source
  • The DigiTech Whammy DT allows for MIDI control of pitch shifts, enabling precise automation not possible with manual adjustments.

    Source
  • The Whammy DT is praised for its ability to handle heavy DSP loads offboard, unlike the Helix which may struggle with DSP allocation for pitch effects.

    Source
  • The Whammy DT allows pitch shifting both up and down, whereas the Digitech Drop only shifts down.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Whammy V allows switching between CLASSIC and CHORDS modes, optimizing for different pitch shift intervals, unlike the DT which is always in CHORDS mode.

    Source
  • The Whammy DT is noted for its polyphonic pitch shifting capabilities, which perform better than the monophonic pitch shift of the Quad Cortex.

    Source
  • The EHX Pitchfork can also handle drop tuning similar to the Digitech Drop, but users note it sounds better with distortion.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Whammy DT's polyphonic algorithm handles single notes and chords effectively, making it preferable for users not interested in the glitchy characteristics of older models.

    Source
  • Vildhjarta utilizes MIDI automation with the Whammy DT for rapid pitch changes during performances, a feature appealing to bands with complex live setups.

    Source
  • The Whammy DT is favored for its MIDI control capability, which is beneficial for players planning to control pitch shifts remotely.

    Source

User experience

  • Users report that the Whammy DT maintains tonal clarity better than other pitch shifters when dropping multiple steps, especially for open tunings.

    Source
  • Some users find the Whammy DT's size cumbersome, preferring the more compact Digitech Drop for its simplicity and effectiveness.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Owners suggest purchasing a second-hand Digitech Drop as it holds its value well, allowing for potential future upgrades to a Whammy DT.

Life changeing

My soul ascended when i started useing it. god came down unto my tone and brought it upon the heavens. the drop tune is perfect, the whammy is great, the octave is amazing.

A must-have pedal for Jazzmaster players who still want to divebomb!

As a Jazzmaster player, I'm kinda limited in how crazy I get with the tremolo system. But thankfully, I have this big red monster on the front end of my pedal chain. It is the cornerstone of my dynamic effects.

Need to detune? Hit the detune function and adjust as needed. No need to adjust your tuning guitar-side. Furthermore, you can hit the instant footswitch and you get the detune effect as needed.

On the whammy side, you have so many harmonic options - bend up or down to a particular interval, octave up, octave down, and dive bomb - perfect if you want to do slow synthesizer style pitch bends up or down, or extreme Tom Morello weirdness. It's a bit on the pricey side, and there's a proprietary power source, but it's worth every penny!

Outstanding effect

The Whammy effect is one of the very few outstanding effects which gained world fame through its uniqueness. There is nothing comparable apart from being a Whammy copy. It´s immensely recognizable, the signal quality is outstanding.

Integrated with intelligence into the tonal context the DigiTech Whammy DT enables unique effects which boost the electric guitar and its expression into regions of a synthesizer without losing the guitar approach and expression. Traditional as well as experimental sounds can be done without any problems without being forced to use mechanical techniques like vibrato systems or neck bending. If you want a Whammy effect you need DigiTech!

Amazing, couldn't gig without it

The whammy and the octave are great, but the alternate tuning options are amazing. Any key my singer wants to do a song on it's as easy as a touch of the dial, no capo or drop tuning anymore.

Amazing pedal - such a handy piece of equipment

This pedal is so handy for me. I play in a lot of different tunings so I bought this mainly for the drop tune function (though I like using the whammy too) and it now means I can just use the one bass for all different tunings. I would say though if you are playing at home to use headphones as you can still hear the strings of the bass in their proper tuning and it can be confusing to hear this. In a live situation I imagine it wouldn't be as bad, but I have yet to determine that.

E

great fun pedal

This is a great pedal to play with. Use the harmony option a lot for dual lead sounds and of course the whammy option is fun. The detune option is really handy if like me you have Floyd equipped guitars. One of my favourite pedals

T

Useful workhorse

Its a harmonizer, pitch shifter, and even has chorus capabilities. The most useful pedal on my board.

peasinafookinpod420

my main whammy pedal

it is my main whammy pedal, I also have a bass one, but I use this one most of the time. I love it and would totally recommend.

nathankidd

Must-have!

Pedal is perfect apart from the slightly robotic sound of pitch shifting, and an increase in background noise when on. Pro's far out-way the cons.

andreribeiro

oitaaavaaas!!!!
