Review: MXR Double-Double Overdrive Pedal | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The MXR M250 Double-Double Overdrive is a triumph in versatility, offering guitarists two distinct overdrive circuits in one compact pedal. With straightforward controls and a Lo/Hi gain switch, it delivers both smooth, mid-focused tones and aggressive, crunchy sounds. While you can't stack the circuits, each mode offers excellent tonal variety, making it ideal as a foundational overdrive. Users may need to tweak the bass and gain for the best sound, but the overall performance is clear and bold. A must-try for those seeking a reliable, adaptable overdrive pedal.

MXR’s M250 Double-Double Overdrive | Vintage Guitar® magazine

vintageguitar.com

The MXR M250 Double-Double Overdrive is a versatile pedal that caters to both subtle and extreme tonal needs. Its dual overdrive circuits offer a range of sounds from classic Japanese to modern American distortion. The simple controls for Treble, Bass, Level, and Drive are intuitive, though the lack of foot-switchable settings is a downside. Despite this, its solid construction and responsive grit make it a valuable addition to any guitarist's setup, especially for those seeking both warmth and aggression in their overdrive.

"I’m gearing-up for our upcoming trip to Australia and New Zealand, and I’ve been wanting to update my low-gain-drive for this tour. I decided to try out the MXR Double-Double Overdrive this morning. I could not be happier. I have barely cracked the surface of this OD, and I’m already a huge fan of the dynamic range with the Treble and Bass settings, as well as the fact that there are two internal Gain circuits (so it’s as comfortable with a growl as it is with a roar). The harmonic overtones are nice and warm, there’s plenty of headroom and full-bodied chords ring extremely true through this stomp. The true test is when this thing hits the stage; but with as much boost as it’s capable of, and the aforementioned characteristics, I hardly think there’s any cause for concern. Another extremely fine job by the folks at MXR." John Baizley - Baroness
