In a Total Guitar interview from May 2005, Frusciante talks about recording his ninth solo album Curtains. Total Guitar comments that the performances on Curtains have an intimate quality, likely due to them being recorded in John Frusciante's living room. Frusciante responds, "Yeah. It was just me sitting on a pillow on my living room floor with my back leaning against the couch. There was a mic [a KM-54] on the guitar and another mic [Telefunken 250] for vocals.I would just go back and forth between my living room and the library, which is now the control room, and listen to what I'd done. Sometimes [engineer] Ryan Hewitt and I would make an edit between two different takes."

The KM-54 refers to the Neumann KM-54 Tube Microphone, which as mentioned above was used to record Frusciante's guitar sound.

And what about those famous guitars, which included Ibanez JS1200, JS1000 and JS2PRM electrics (his signature line), a Bruce Sexauer FT-14 acoustic and a 1948 Martin 000-21? For the demo recordings, Satriani used either a Palmer or Marshall SE100 speaker simulator paired with one of his many guitar amps, including those from his signature Peavey JSX Series. In the studio, he played into either a CAD D189 or an SM57. For clean guitar parts and acoustic guitar, he used a KM54.

A KM-54a owned by Satriani, possibly the same microphone, was later sold on Reverb.com via Bananas at Large.

Taylor Swift used the Neumann KM-54 microphone to record the guitars for her album "Speak Now," as confirmed by Nathan Chapman, one of the producers on the album. Chapman stated, "For acoustic guitar I use a Neumann KM-54, going into an API 512 preamp, going into a [Empirical Labs] Distressor," as reported by Sound On Sound.

According to the website for his studio, atlas studios, Bert has a km54 mic in the studio

Used for the piano on XOXO, as stated by engineer Nick Tveitbakk in this October 28, 2020 Mix Online interview.

Grotberg played the studio’s Yamaha GH1 piano. “It’s not as bright like a C7 and has some very nice hardware on it,” says Tveitbakk. He put up a pair of Neumann KM54s through 1081 mic pres into a stereo Tube-Tech compressor.

In a photo posted on Instagram by Michał Wasyl on January 8, 2019, it is evident that he uses the Neumann KM-54 microphone in the studio. The post, which includes the hashtag #neumannkm254, features the caption: "Cześć! jestem po pięćdziesiątce i mam się całkiem dobrze."
