Digital Space Echo Simulation

This is essentially a poor man's digital version of the famous Roland Space Echo with only minimally reduced functionality. What's a bit annoying is that several options can only be accessed through a software app, for which the pedal has to be connected to a computer with a USB cable. It generally sounds good, a bit brighter than the original perhaps, even though it goes into self-oscillation rather quickly. This is fine if you want to create weird spaceship effects, but if you want slightly more stable delays, then you need to use the software to tweak some of the parameters. There is some faint signal noise if the pedal is in buffered bypass mode (Trails on), but nothing if it is in true bypass mode (Trails off). Quality control on these Chinese-made pedals seems to be quite poor, there are numerous stories of people going through several different one until they got one that worked. Using the latest firmware from the NuX website seems to resolve several issues. On the other hand, I haven't seen any other tape delay for under €100 that can compete with this one in terms of functionality and sound.

Nice effect but poor quality control

At first sight, this is a nice Tape Echo simulation. Apart from the usual knobs (Delay, Feedback, Level),it offers 7 different positions which consist of 3 different delay range and the possibility to combine them. There's also a Sound on Sound position, actually a sampler, which can be useful. The effect is supposed to be editable using a software but the USB cable is not included so I did not have time to try it. Cherry on top: a tap tempo, always useful for this kind of pedal. The sound of the delay is realistic and takes you directly to Floydish territories à la Echorec. So what's the problem? The problem is that the unit is terribly noisy and not true bypass. It wasn't obvious at first as I tested it with the battery that was provided with the pedal. But once plugged on my pedalboard, things began to change. I could hear a chhh chhh chhh through the amp. I quickly realized it came from the pedal, even though it wasn't engaged. I tried to use it on its own with an isolated power supply but it did not change anything, the noise was still there. I don't know if that problem was specific to my pedal or if that's a factory issue but I've returned it to the seller as the pedal was not usable for my purposes. The noise makes it unsuitable for recording and for live performances. I don't have anything against floor noise, that's kind of normal, but that was some sort of very annoying digital noise which can't be tolerated especially when the pedal is supposed to be off. I'll have to avoid buying this brand in the future as I've read a lot of similar reviews. Too bad cause the effet was pretty great in the first place.

eh

Can't explain why but i didn't like it at all, it was unusable for me. When i switched to boss dd-3, delay became my most used effect. Not bad, just wasn't for me i guess
