Good Sound, Bad Reliability

The amp sounds like a VOX should, but mine has suffered a lot, starting with the FX loop going silent, then the Reverb unit failing, finally with the channel blend switch not working and input jacks cracking - all of the jacks are made from cheap plastic. Technicians hate it too, being a chinese made PCB stuffed amp, it is not repaired easily.

2005 AC30CCX

2005 AC30CCX (X for Blue Alnico speakers) replicates the vintage Vox tones in convincing ways and is very useful both for live and studio applications. I keep this as both a back-up and supplement to my '61 AC30 because it sounds great and has the master volume for certain lower volume situations.

jimmarchi1

have you considered selling the CCX as well as the heritage in fawn and investing in a current production HW2X? I was really knocked out by the new fawnies and scooped one up as well as an AC4HW

geoffrey_james

i wouldn't sell the H2 if I didn't need to augment the cash flow right now. I plan to find another '07 and do the whole mod over again when the cash flow gets back to normal. I love that amp! :( Bet the AC4 is a lot of fun! so those don't use the turret board?

jimmarchi1

nah, my ac4 has a turret... its the fancy one... like all single ended amps with full tonestacks it can be a little finnicky with settings when its gunned into full bore distortion, but I use it all the time, it sounds fantastic, very voxy and more my cup of tea than the 5f1

"I use the AC30CC2X. I guess I’ve always had a thing about Voxes. When I was younger I watched this film 'Blow up' and it had The Yardbirds playing in a basement surrounded by Voxes. There’s just a certain heritage..the way they look, the way they sound – just one of the best. The first time I did any recording was with an original 1960s AC30 and I can’t tell the difference – I think this (Custom Classic) is a spot on representation."
