Build quality

  • The Vox AC15CC1 is noted for its substantial weight of 50 lbs, contributing to its solid build but making it less portable.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

    Source
  • Vintage 30 speakers are recommended for Vox amps, offering a sound improvement over the stock Wharfedale, which attempts to mimic a Greenback but falls short.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • A specific issue was identified: a squeal occurs when nothing is plugged into the input, potentially linked to a botched bright capacitor mod.

    Source

Features and functionality

    Source

Comparisons

  • The AC30 offers more headroom and is better suited for gigging compared to the AC15, which struggles in louder band settings.

    Source
  • Celestion Creamback speakers are noted for being an excellent match with Vox circuits, offering improved tonal characteristics.

    Source
  • The AC15CC1 is preferred for its more robust sound compared to the AC15C1, which is described as having a fizzier, more modern drive.

    Source
  • The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe is highlighted for its clean channel and volume capability, but the drive channel is considered subpar.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • For home use, the AC15CC1 is favored, while the Fender Deluxe is deemed excessively loud for non-gig environments.

Great Vox amp

This amp is pretty cool. I use this one in stereo with my HRD. I like the contrast between the warmer, more bassy HRD and the brightness of the Vox. I get a really wide range of sound when using them together. Only 15 watts, though. Not enough headroom for me to use on its own, but it still sounds great!

Much better

Replace the Speaker- Great Amp!

With just a few mods this turned into a very nice amp. The biggest improvement was replacing the stock speaker with a Celestion BadCat proprietary speaker. It tightened up the bass and got rid of the piercing high end that these amps are known for, no need for a bright cap mod. I also installed some vintage NOS tubes. I'm very happy with this amp now. It has a great chimey Vox cleans. I like the distortion better when the master volume is turned up rather than cranking the preamp.

VOX rules

My main live amp... Play in parallel with the Princeton.... two very complementary low watt amps... I'd got an AC30 before (64 one) but it was too loud... couldn't play it at more than 3...

sasha_szlafarski

Nearly perfect

Needs to be modded for a tone cut, a proper choke and of course better tubes. THEN it sounds great. Alnico speaker is a must

michael_foreman

Classic brit tones

I like this amp, but it's my home-use, back up amp. Just sounds a bit thin with my band. Sounds great at lower volumes and is great in the studio. Love the trem.
