Classic 4op FM. Pandora's Box. Huge Bass

This is a misunderstod classic. You can view it in different ways. A simple and early "bread and butter" box of cute and dirty FM. It almost has an 8bit kind of vibe. But like its older sister, the CX5M music computer, dress it up with a decent reverb and a good editor and you have one of the most hippest sounding sound design tools at your disposal. I made a long career in music thanks to this little box ( I kid you not) and I still wonder at its unique sound charater. If you want to hear its depths watch my series of Youtube videos "A Catalogue of FM Materials" by Element433. Yamaha deserve much love for giving us this small box.

I layered bass patches on the Yamaha FB-01 back in the day...

I bought this Yamaha FB-01 the day it was available in the Nashville music store I shopped at. I haven't fired the FB-01 up in years. I used it all the time as FM synth bass sound source in my studio recordings. For live, I used it to fatten up the the DX7 electric piano in the 1980's 1990's. I used the glockenspiel sounds for the Springsteen song "Born to Run" in the early 2000's.

Simple but great Fm module

An amazing piece of gear. Not flexible at all, but sounds great. Amazing bass sounds and fm pianos

barebones lo-fi FM synth similar to Sega Genesis

Really barebones/lo-fi FM synth. Pretty sure the chip inside it is either the same or extremely similar to the chip inside a Sega Genesis. Cheap!

Michael Bradford's 'Chunky Style Gear'

A big, beefy guy with a penchant for making big, beefy‑sounding records, Michael Bradford aptly names his production company Chunky Style Music. Accordingly, he also has his own chunky style setup at a post‑production facility named Millennium Sound. Mostly MIDI‑related or used to run Pro Tools, this collection of equipment is pretty comprehensive:
