Features and functionality

  • The Whammy DT can shift pitch up or down and offers the full Whammy effect, making it versatile for varied song requirements.

    Source
  • The Whammy DT can achieve two separate pitch shifts in series, such as octaves into detune, creating unique sound effects akin to a 12-string guitar.

    Source
  • The DT includes a Momentary mode, offering unique pitch-shifting capabilities that some users wish were available on the Whammy V.

    Source
  • Whammy V's chord mode offers smooth tracking, enhancing the harmony function for organ sounds or glassy chordal leads in comparison to classic mode's glitch effect.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users report a slight lag due to tracking, which might impact live band settings but adds a unique charm in solo play.

    Source
  • Owners appreciate the DT for its wide range of pitch shifts, including down and up two octaves, enhancing versatility for both live and studio settings.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The DigiTech Drop shares similarities with the Whammy DT, focusing on fixed pitch shifts rather than sweeping through ranges.

    Source
  • The Whammy V allows switching between CLASSIC and CHORDS modes, optimizing for different pitch intervals, which isn't possible with the DT.

    Source
  • The Whammy DT lacks the ability to replicate the quick processing of the Whammy V's CLASSIC 2nd Down mode, highlighting a specific advantage of the V for rapid processing.

    Source
  • The EHX Pitch Fork is favored by some for its mix knob and expression pedal capability, offering additional control not found in the Whammy DT.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for cover bands needing quick tuning adjustments without multiple retunings or carrying several guitars.

    Source
  • The DT's ability to handle polyphonic sounds makes it superior for performances requiring stable and musical pitch shifts, especially with chords.

    Source
  • Whammy DT is noted for its ability to uptune like an instant capo, a unique feature compared to other models focused on detuning.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • The Whammy V's MIDI capabilities are highlighted as a major advantage for users integrating it into a digital setup.

Good To Have

Ein klares Must Have, wenn man in seiner rebellischen, experimentellen Tube-Amp-Pedalboard-Phase steckt.

Great pedal!

I was always interested in getting this pedal and in my 18th birthday I got it as a gift so I can't really discuss how much it cost/what it does It's a very unique pedal, used by a ton of professional musicians it's the sound of tom morello and even jack white. But overall I love this pedal, very intuitive and the sound is amazing, grab a good distortion and just have fun playing around with it. I don't play that much with the harmonics but they sound amazing too. A really good piece of equipment.

It's like owning a key to another place & time

Although I'm mainly a Blues Guitarist, I'm a very big fan of David Gilmour. When I started learning one of His song " The Blue " the Whammy-1 is a necessity. Being a writer and Music arranger, the Whammy-1 has open all kind of doors for Me. Even if You're not into David Gilmour and Pink Floyd I still would suggest the investment. ~Pepper~

The Pedal We All Want But Don't Need

It's too easy to get distracted with one of these, but it's well worth it to get one. I use mine primarily set at either an octave or a 5th up. I'll use the sifting feature for some parts with Thames. The detune setting on this is a great chorus-y tone that I prefer over many I've tried and tested.

Simply the best

This is a must-have tool to create sounds with your guitar, from crazy riffs to insane solos! It's amazing because it gives you such great possibilities to empower your sound, like using not only octaves, but intervals like 3rd, 4th, 5th... and you can select from 2 different sets at the same time, just moving your foot up and down to select whatever you want. It does "digitalize" your sound a little bit, but there are way more pros than cons with this one...

hamnotthefood

The most fun pedal I have

What can I say about this thing that hasn’t already been said? ITS LEGENDARY.

thanos_raksen

Great pitch shifting pedal in one unit.

It's really smooth, and plays well, there's almost no latency at all, and it can also be controlled through midi when needed, which is cool.

elgringoloco

A "gadget"?! Hell no!

Morello is and will always be the Great Master of this thing. The Whammy 5 is a real inspiring tool box... When you're awkward-minded. I mainly use it as an octaver, for mixing dry signal with lows and highs. I don't really use the pitch shifting thing so much. The surprise for me has been the DEEP and the SHALLOW sounds, it's more than a simple chorus, it gives something "psycho" to your sound, play emotionnally with that and you'll mark your listener.

yoda_man_now_dog_

A lot of fun to play with!

I haven't quite gotten the hang of how to use it in my own music yet, but it's sturdy and it sounds wonderful. I absolutely adore being able to switch between a polyphonic sound and the glitchy monophony that this pedal's precursors had.

improviz35

Experimenting

I don't really use it for playing songs but to experiment whenever I feel like soloing. Some of the sound it produces, sounds so off the top but it's fun.

"The old school DigiTech Whammy pedal, they don't make them small anymore and I'm looking for more of those because there's something about that pedal that he just loves," says Joe Perry's guitar tech.

An interview with Perry done in 2004:

I use a Whammy pedal, the red one. The first ones that came out, I kind of like the best. The newer ones track a little better, but it doesn’t have — they’re not quite as raunchy as the older ones. So I guess they did another version of the red one, and it’s pretty close to the old ones. But I still use the first or the second one that I got.
