Keeping it all Fender, all the time, Arson plugs into both cherished time periods of Fullerton amp lore. Side A is a black-panel Bandmaster that hits a vintage Hiwatt cab outfitted with Celestion Heritage Greenback speakers. Side B is a silver-panel 1976 Fender Vibrolux. Notice Arson is plugging into the vibrato channels of both amps and each has its bright switch engaged.

My rig is super simple. I use Dorothy and a Fender Vibrolux reissue. I use the amp’s tremolo as well as that Boss tremolo, and then I use an Electro-Harmonix LPB-1—just the regular $40 one—and a Boss tuner pedal, and that’s literally it! It sounds great and gets the job done.

For amps, the liner notes for 88 Elmira St. cite a slew of tweed and blackface Fender beauties, including a ’63 Vibrolux and Super Reverb, a ’58 Twin, ’64 Deluxe, and a ’58 Bassman, many of which had been beefed up with bigger transformers.

""Mark [Hollis] played most of the guitar on the later two albums, which would be his Gretsch Country Gentleman through either a Boogie, an AC30, a Fender Vibrolux, or a Champ, although he played the riff on '˜Desire' on my Vox teardrop 12-string. "

"It’s pretty representative. Essentially, the guitar sounds are mainly through a Vibrolux and then reamped through a Champ. Not all of the things are reamped, but a lot of them are."
