Critic Reviews

Classic Gear: Fender Super Reverb | GuitarPlayer

guitarplayer.com

The Fender Super Reverb Combo Amp is a revered classic, celebrated for its robust, room-filling sound courtesy of its 4x10 speaker setup. Musicians from blues legends like Stevie Ray Vaughan to rock icons like Alex Lifeson have cherished its dynamic clarity and smooth transition from clean to overdrive. The amp's signature blackface sound, characterized by scooped mids and sparkling highs, makes it versatile for genres ranging from blues to rock. However, post-1968 circuit modifications under CBS ownership diluted its tonal purity, making pre-1968 models more desirable. Despite later changes, Fender's 2001 reissue pays homage to this iconic amp's legacy.

I was recording most of the guitar tracks through my Fender ’68 Super Reverb and I was using two microphones in front of the speakers: Audio Technica 4050 and then I had a Shure SM57, so I had two mics and I could combine those two together to create the sound I wanted.

Amp wise, we're running a 1967 Fender Super Reverb. This is kind of my amp of choice for the road. Four tens, they're super reliable. They're loud, which I like. It's basically everything I need in an amp.
