    Source
  • The amp's master volume can be set wide open for loud cleans or under 9 o'clock for low volume overdrive, enhancing control over sound output.

    Source
  • Owners find the AC4C1-BL ideal for home use, achieving broken tube amp sound at low volumes without disturbing neighbors, especially appreciated by those with young children.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The AC4C1-BL is often compared to the AC10C1, which includes reverb and handles clean tones better at higher volumes.

    Source
  • The AC4C1-12 with a 12" speaker reduces the "boxy" sound associated with 10" speaker models, offering a more open tone.

    Source

Value and pricing

Vox AC4C1-BL review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Vox AC4C1-BL is a visually stunning mini combo amp that offers classic Class A tones at a good price. Its simplicity is a major selling point, making it perfect for home practice or small gigs. However, be prepared for a struggle if you need to swap out valves due to a cumbersome back panel. While it doesn't deliver high distortion or have onboard reverb, its fundamental tones are strong, and it pairs well with pedals for additional color. Overall, this amp is a solid choice for those seeking the iconic Vox sound without breaking the bank.

Great quality low wattage amp with a flawed back panel design.

I love VOX amps and this amp is no exception. It has the signature chimey VOX cleans, and with gain turned up it even produces excellent fuzzy tones. However this amp has one major flaw, it's the design of its back panel. I noticed it when I replaced the stock speaker. Taking off the back panel was atrocious, the number of screws on the back panel is plain stupid. It was made even more atrocious due to the fact that all I had was a plain screwdriver and not some power tool. Speaking of speakers the stock speaker was okay, but I replaced it with a 20-watt Weber Alnico Blue Pup with moderate dope.

Edit: I missed out two important details. The Alnico Blue Pup is a really tight fit for the AC4C1-BL. While ordering the speaker order it without the cover or else it won't fit. Second is that the output transformer needs to be relocated from its position, otherwise the back of the speakers touches against it. It isn't a grueling task, all one needs to do is drill two more holes on the space next to the output transformer, and then relocate it to that location.

the annoying back panel is true of a lot of vintage vox amps too, not to mention the vintage chassis mounting... you don't even want to know about servicing my 1962 ac30. And it needs constant maintenance. Fucking Jaguar of amplifiers. If anything your modern ac4 probably is easier to get into than an old one. But! if you've owned any vintage tweed amps with just 4 screws holding the back panel on and 4 screws mounting the hanging chassis you'll know as they age and the wood contracts they are prone to rattling and need to be weather stripped at the joints to absorb the vibrations whereas voxes don't have this problem as they age due to the overbuilt cabinets. So there is actually a logic to vox cabinet design.

Pretty little sounding all-tube amp for home practice

I was looking for a round response to my setup at home situation (you know! neighbors!) and this fits perfectly to that purpose. I've also considered Hiwatt's T10 Combo because of its nice clean sound and effects loop but chosen this Vox AC4 for its tonal response as it results a lot more usable to me at higher gain settings and has two knobs to adjust bass and treble instead of a single general tone control.

Great amp!

Great low wattage amp for practice or low volume worship, I use a 1x12 extension cab with a greenback, an amazing tone! And even boosts the volume and sound dispersement quite a bit.

Great Practice Amp!

I love this lil' guy! I use it to bring to practices and as a second amp in my stereo setup. Very affordable, rock-solid tube amp. I mic this with an SM57—sounds really good!

Upgraded resistors, added Mercury Magnetics Choke, tubes changed to Mullard EL84, and low gain 12AX7, speaker changed to WGS Green Beret 8ohm 10" as of 12/31/16

Fantastic recording and practice amp. I've even used it live, and if being pushed hard enough, can keep up with my AC30 no problem. I have heavily modified it in order to enhance the clarity and chime, and to make it a professional and dependable go-to amp for recording.

Cute, cool sound

Gets hot very fast and buzzes too much for recordings. Fun to play though.

jimmarchi1

it shouldn't buzz that much, something's wrong with it... could be as simple as a noisy tube
