Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Fender Champion 100.

Features and functionality

  • The Fender Champion 100 has an FX loop, which is often highlighted as a beneficial feature for those using external effects.

    Source
  • The Champion 100 does not have line-out options, requiring miking for larger venues, unlike some other models that offer direct connections.

    Source
  • Users report that setting the amp's modeller to the heaviest British setting with treble on 6, mids on 4, and bass on 6 can achieve a heavier tone.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users often compare the Champion 100 to the Fender Bassbreaker, noting the Champion 100 can sound flat compared to the dynamic and lively Bassbreaker.

    Source
  • The Vox AC10 and Boss Katana are noted as alternatives, with the former being a tube amp and the latter offering built-in effects, contrasting the Champion 100's middle-ground approach.

    Source
  • The Champion 100 is often compared to the Mustang series, which offers more built-in amp models and programmable presets, providing greater flexibility in tone shaping.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The amp is frequently used as a pedal platform, with many owners favoring the clean channel and using pedals for drive and other effects.

    Source
  • The Champion 100 is reported to be excessively loud for bedroom use, even at low volumes, making it more suited for larger practice spaces or live settings.

    Source
  • The Champion 100 is described as sounding like "angry bees" without pedals, indicating it may not be suitable for achieving high-gain metal tones on its own.

    Source

User experience

  • Some owners report the amp sounds better at higher volumes, where it "comes alive," whereas at low volumes, it can sound darker.

    Source
  • Despite the appeal of its 2x12 cabinet setup, it's noted that the Champion 100 lacks the true tonal character of a Twin Reverb without significant modifications.

    Source
  • Owners note that the clean channel works best when paired with pedals, while the "voicings" channel struggles to deliver satisfactory tones without external effects.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • While it's considered a good value for its power, some owners suggest looking for used Fender tube amps or saving for a higher-end model like the Tone Master for a more satisfying long-term investment.

    Source

Build quality

  • The amp is manufactured in China, contributing to its lower price point compared to U.S.-made models.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • It's suggested that swapping to Celestion speakers, as seen in the Champion 100XL, can significantly improve high-gain tones, addressing issues with the stock speaker's sound.

Critic Reviews

Fender Champion 100 amplifier – review – Fat Sound

wordpress.com

The Fender Champion 100 is a solid state workhorse that impresses with its lightweight design and affordability, making it ideal for students or those on the go. It delivers classic Fender tones reminiscent of the revered Twin Reverb, offering straightforward controls that shine in live settings. While it can't match the tonal richness of a valve amp, it compensates with versatility and durability. The clean channel offers pure Fender sounds, whereas the second channel provides gritty, diverse voicings. Its twin-speaker setup ensures strong projection, though it's not the lightest option available. Overall, a great choice for those needing a reliable, portable amp without breaking the bank.

Fender Champion 100 Review - American Songwriter

americansongwriter.com

The Fender Champion 100 is praised for its versatility and power, making it a reliable choice for guitarists of all styles. Its ability to emulate multiple amp voicings and include various onboard effects like reverb and delay adds to its appeal. The amp is loud enough for most live settings and features a footswitch for easy channel changes. However, its size and weight may not suit those seeking a more portable option. While priced at around $400, its solid-state design offers durability. Overall, it's a powerful and adaptable amp for stage use, but not ideal for those prioritizing lightweight gear.

francesco_axel_romio

Amazingness

This amp is absolutely the best around for the price. It is loyal overtime and everywhere, always sounds true and has amazing cleans , even if "he" is not a tube amp. I think that he is the best friend ti carry everywhere, he doesn't ask much, and behave in an amazing way.

purereanimation

Versatile

No matter what you're using it for it'll do, its never perfect for what you're going for but no matter what you'll get close. Its got a nice warm vintage tone. Loads of voices and effects to mess around with. Good thing this is.

jimmarchi1

Good beginner gigging amplifier

This was my first amplifier, and is a good beginner amp for people starting out in bands as it's loud enough for all gigs, and has a variety of tones and effects.

sergio_calabria

Love it

I just love the sound of it, on both channels. The effects that are already in it are accurate, and it's more than just "giggable".

tomhood

ok then

for the price, this thing is absolutely astonishing.

knightj200

A great starting out gigging amp

As a starting out musician, this amp has been a great learning pathway. Its loud enough to play any gig and with built in FX and amp styles, its great fun to play around with.
