Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Strymon Mobius Modulator.

Features and functionality

  • The Mobius has a ring modulator with tunable pitch and a bitcrusher that simulates old records with controllable pitch vibrato and sound filters.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Adding an expression pedal unlocks more possibilities, allowing control over multiple parameters simultaneously.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Owners often use the filter settings for gigging, with presets like slow cocked wah and low pass envelope filters being favored.

    Source
  • The Mobius is preferred for use with heavier distortion and tap tempo settings, contributing to its versatility in various musical styles.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Some users find standalone modulation pedals more flexible than the Mobius, which is preset-based and can't stack effects.

    Source
  • The Mobius phaser is generally well-regarded, but some owners prefer the "chewiness" of a Phase 90, particularly for lighter modulation effects.

    Source
  • Mobius's flanger is favored over budget MXR flanger clones, especially for achieving EVH-style jet flange sounds.

    Source
  • Some users find the Mobius sterile compared to analog pedals like the CE2 Waza, Walrus Julia, or EQD Depths, which offer a thicker, more distinct sound.

    Source
  • The Mobius's wah and filter effects are appreciated, though others prefer standalone pedals like the Prometheus DLX for their wah and filter needs.

    Source

User experience

  • It's reported that stereo output significantly enhances the Mobius's sound, making it more dynamic compared to mono.

    Source
  • While the Mobius chorus can emulate a Boss CE-1/2, its other chorus styles are less frequently used by those who aren't big chorus fans.

    Source
  • It's noted that the Mobius's menu diving is less convenient than the '1 knob per function' layout of dedicated analog modulation pedals.

    Source
  • Owners who favor a lush stereo chorus often appreciate the Mobius, despite criticism over its perceived sterility in other effects.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Mobius is considered a good deal for those wanting a wide range of modulation effects in a single pedal, despite its inability to stack effects.

Strymon Mobius Pedal Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The Strymon Mobius Modulator is a powerhouse of modulation effects, offering a vast array of sounds that can transform a pedalboard. It's praised for its high-quality DSP emulations and the breadth of modulation options it provides, from vintage tremolo to rotary speaker simulations. While it can be intimidating for those unfamiliar with complex digital effects, its intuitive interface allows even novices to quickly find usable sounds. The downsides include its hefty price and the potential complexity that might overwhelm stage performers. Overall, it's a stellar choice for studio tinkerers and versatile gigging musicians looking for expansive modulation capabilities.

Strymon Mobius

soundonsound.com

Strymon's Mobius Modulator impresses with its rich, dynamic modulation effects that rival classic pedals. The SHARC DSP power delivers clarity without noise, making it perfect for live and studio use. The sturdy build and intuitive design allow for versatile patch saving, while MIDI and expression pedal compatibility enhance its adaptability. However, the lack of battery power and a power switch might inconvenience some users. Overall, it's a top-tier modulation pedal for serious musicians.

This pedal makes Eventide chorus and detune units look like a joke.

So for quite a while I've been in search of that one perfect stereo chorus/detune unit that takes line level well, sounds great, and is reliable for live shows. To be honest, I've been let down too many times with many stereo units that came with too many drawbacks - vintage rack units were nowhere near reliable for critical studio sessions and/or live shows, Boss MD-500 couldn't take line level to save its own life and doesn't handle high-gain tones well, and Eventide's Tricerachorus algorithm sounded like a complete garbage that made Fulltone TERC look good.

Enter the Strymon Mobius. Featuring 12 different modulation algorithms, this unit is designed by the same geniuses who created the ultimate reverb pedal, the Strymon BigSky. The Mobius features similar form design as the other Strymon pedals, and in addition to that, you can also opt for the Pre/Post mode where you can place modulation effects before or after the preamp section of your amplifier.

The stereo chorus sounds you get out of this unit is insane! The Multi chorus algorithm sounds very lush and musical, that you don't even need a stereo detune pedal to make an 80's chorus sound work with this unit. The detune algorithm also sounds much more musical than Eventide's Micropitch pedal, not to even mention other modulation engines you can have a look into if you're ever into other effects.

One caveat here is that this unit doesn't have true analog dry, but IMHO Strymon has nailed it where it matters most - amazing stereo effects with a dry signal that remains unaffected. I've been scammed too many times by vintage rack elitists into thinking that vintage racks are the only way to go. The Strymon Mobius was a pleasant surprise, and it certainly is THE unit that I wish I had back in 2019.

If you're looking for THE ultimate modulation machine in the 21st century, take a serious look at the Strymon Mobius. I did, and ever since then I haven't even touched any other chorus/detune pedals or rack FX units.

Pandora box of modulation

Their classic algorithms do sound nice but the real reason why I keep it over other options that came after it is because of its more peculiar features, it’s a very interesting unit to conquer sounds beyond the more traditional modulation effects. Their rotary mode allows you to ramp between two different speeds and I think that they should have make this feature available for all the other modes.

Great multi modulation pedal

I just wanted a rotary and a pattern tremolo, but with the money that i'd spend to get it, i could get the Mobius. Apart from great sounds it has too a very twekable possibilities to achieve great sounds. Some effects like Quadrature allows to get some great weird textures. Tremolo is very nice, the pattern tremolo is awesome. I am not a chorus/flanger user, but this effects on Mobius are very 3D-ish and combined with drive or fuzz can make a huge sound. The most useful tool in this pedal is the send/return by far. I use it, pass through my drive chain on it and choosing what i want before or after the modulations. A great goal to Strymon mobius.

Best sounding pedal for all modulation stuff

Let's get this straight: Your pedalboard will get way too big if you use all the possibilities you will get with the mobius. The mobius sounds absolutely killer without any loss of signal - which you would have to deal with if you use analog pedals instead of this one. In addition the mobius is not as big nor heavy as you might think, it's well built und set up logically. You'll have hours of fun with it!

digital replication

This one is not a one trick pony. it's versatile and can replicate all of the sounds it promotes really well. There is a slight difference in authenticity in sound when comparing like for like to analog pedals of the same nature however to me when I use this in my band at full noise the debate between digital and analog quickly disappears . I use this because of the midi functions paired with a GigRig g2 and has kicked 4 pedals off my pedalboard. A brilliant space saver with studio quality effects.

Mindblowing!

The best modulation pedal ever. The quality of the sound is incredible and the options and ranges of each one of the effects is amazing. The option to save until 200 presets divided in 100 banks is excellent and adding the fact that you can name each preset, it ease the exploring of the banks and presets to play live.

The best option for modulation processor.

Modulationioulicous !

The MOBIUS. A cool midi- syncable unit for any kind of modulation. Presets for days. In combination with BIG SKY you will find a cool sound at any time.

"Removed the Strymon Tape Echo Pedal. Added a Strymon Mobius for BPM timed Tremelo, Leslie Simulator and much more in the way of modulation to come, as I get my head round all the possibilities. I’d like to get hold of an Expression pedal for this. Any tips? Well, that’s about it anyway.
