Description
Introducing the Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor, an innovative solution for eliminating unwanted noise and hum from your guitar or bass signal. Perfectly balancing technical precision and musical sensitivity, this effects pedal ensures that your original sound's tonality and natural attack are preserved.
Unlike typical noise gates, the NS-2 features Boss's unique noise detection circuitry that accurately separates the guitar sound and the noise components. This sophisticated technology allows the NS-2 to maintain your guitar's natural dynamics and tonality, resulting in a clean signal free of hum and hiss, but with your core tone fully intact.
The NS-2 provides flexible noise suppression controls. The threshold knob lets you adjust the sensitivity of the noise detection circuit, allowing you to dial in the perfect amount of noise reduction for your setup. The decay knob controls how quickly the NS-2 clamps down on the noise once your guitar signal fades.
Like all Boss pedals, the NS-2 is built for the road. Its robust metal chassis and footswitches are ready for any gig or studio session. Power it with a 9V battery or Boss's PSA power supply. With the Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal, you can achieve pristine tone at any volume.

Setup and maintenance
-
Using the 4-cable method isolates noisy pedals and the amp's preamp within the NS-2's loop, optimizing noise reduction in complex setups.
Source -
Configurations suggest placing only drive, compressor, and EQ pedals in the NS-2 loop for optimal noise reduction while keeping modulation effects outside the loop.
Source -
Adjust threshold to avoid cutting off quiet notes; set decay longer for sustained chords to maintain natural fade-out.

Source -
Users report needing to experiment with threshold and decay settings to find the balance between noise cancellation and sustaining tone.

i hate it, but it's not terrible.
ever since finding an ISP Decimator (for $60 mind you), i almost immediately trashed this thing. there is simply no comparison for a tight, accurate, and responsive Gate. however, this thing definitively isn't useless. the price is a major selling point, especially considering i've found these things going for under $50 used. if you dial this thing in right, it can be reliable, but honestly for maybe $20 more used, you could get an ISP Decimator or MXR Smart Gate, and get far better and simpler results. this pedal is useful though, so even though i despise it, it still does what it should do. just sucks a bit too much tone for my liking.

Works as needed.
Cuts all noise when you don't want it. After this one in my pedalboard, i can plug both my Overdrive pedal and the Boost pedal together through the dirty channel and play with no problems at all. Cleans up the buzz.

Great Pedal
A few years ago, I was a guitar tech for a local artist. He was having problems with hiss, so I told him to get this pedal. it took 90% of the issue away completely. If his rig hissed, it was because of neon lights or other stuff like that.

Amazing
EDIT 2: Got it back. Thank God...
EDIT: I am the world's biggest idiot for selling this thing...
A little tough on the initial setup if you don't know what you're doing (which I didn't when I bought it), but once you learn how it works, you'll learn why this is one of the best noise gates on the market.

Gets the job done, but not my first choice
I didn't have this pedal for long before selling it.
As a gate itself, it worked great and did it's job just fine but I found this pedal to be a real tone sucker as I noticed cutting of a considerable amount of high end off my tone and turning my guitar tone to mud in a full mix, which is a deal breaker for me. I'm not saying it's an inherently bad pedal, this was just my experience with it.
So I personally wouldn't recommend but it might just be what works for you

Basic but do you really need anything else?
Classic shape that highlights the pedals of this brand, fulfills its function in a good way and that is the important thing, the only things that could be criticized is what all noise suppressors are criticized for.

As Important as a Tuner
Absolutely vital for taming the noise/buzz/hum high-gain tones and/or single-coils can produce; this should be considered as useful and important on a board as a tuner and an EQ.

Does what it does
The loop-based design is a great way to really make it work no matter how much noise your loop produces, even if the idle noise is as loud as when you're not playing at all. It's very responsive, only a very very slight attack/decay that's not noticeable 99% of the time.
Good for most
This is a great pedal if you don't have a high gain amp or high output pickups. I use this with a Les Paul in a Peavey 6505+ and somehow I get a little bit of not so tasty feedback. I knew what I was getting myself into when i got this thing but better noise gates have come out since then. Its easy to use and usually you don't have to adjust it again once you have it set.
