Not transparent, but unbeatable in that price range.

This a simple boost pedal with just a "boost" knob. It is not just a volume boost, the mids are boosted as well, and not slightly. It can be a problem for some who are after a perfeclty clean boost but for the use I make of this pedal, first in chain in front of a Mesa Boogie Flux-Drive, it's very efficient if you want to step out in a band mix and add some grit to an already slightly overdriven sound. You do not need to push the knob very far : at 11 o'clock, it's already audible. Past noon, you run the risk of annoying your bandmates. I've also used it at the end of the effect chain, in that case you need to be very careful about how you set the boost knob, 10 o'clock will result in an already very drastic boost, and that includes hiss and other unintended noise. I rarely use it as a standalone boost and have never tried it in an amp's effect loop, though. Not a 5-star pedal, then, but for me, it's almost compulsory in a band situation, and unbeatable in that price range.

A multi-purpose booster pedal

Though being a very simple pedal, the EHX LPB-1 has some interesting features besides being the classic volume-booster pedal. You can use it trough the FX loop for boosting the volume of whatever you are playing, or through the front of the amp. When used this way it serves as a overdrive-type of pedal that raises the middle-sound along with adding some gain. Interesting feature as well, I recommend to try it.

I mostly use it to boost the noise i make and it's really effective. Outside of that it doesn't have much use to me, but it's nice to also give my riffs more CHONKINESS

The Power Booster

I would say that the EHX LPB-1 Is a unique pedal. It works as a booster with not so much volume range as other similar pedals. If you turn it all the way up using your clean channel, it will increase your volume and sound like an overdrive. It's not transparent at all, as it adds "mid-range body" to your sound, but I need to say that it sounds pretty cool. When I use it after my RAT, I adjust the knob between 11-12 o'clock and it adds body and saturation to that famous crispy RAT sound, making it a little more tasty to my ears. Don't buy it if you need to boost your clean tones, as you only notice volume changes when it is already adding saturation to the signal.

Won't Color Tone

Got this guy not too long ago looking for a relatively non-expensive way to give myself a nice mid-range boost. I play through a 6505+ and they aren't known for their mid-range like Marshall. This pedal drive the tubes harder so your signal breaks up sooner, for metal the sooner the better. I have it set at 11 o'clock and its the perfect amount of juice to get the tone I'm looking for. Did I mention it doesn't color your tone like drive pedals do?

no, like its close cousin the micro amp the LPB1 doesn' color your sound a lot (it does, but its more about extra high end shimmer and that ahrd transistor edge most boosts exhibit, but that's a sound in and of itself), however, if you wanted a mid-boost I am not sure why you went this route

@jimmarchi1 I have my mids almost dimed on the 6505+ and this pedal gives me the little push on that end. I didn't need something more than this!

Cheap and decent

I got this for £24 so I wasn't expecting it to be remarkable. It is dreadful as a clean boost but over my TS Mini it makes it really scream so that is a positive. I am aiming though to upgrade to a Spark or an MXR Micro Amp to improve my sound.

wow, you don't like the LPB-1? its really not so different from the MXR micro-amp. I dunno about the spark though... there's nothing in these things, if you want a really clean, really hifi boost you can easily make one with a fancy burr brown op-amp or a nice, discreet transistor stage (you will find a single JFet or MosFet will work wonders as a clean boost)... try a z-vex super-hard-on before you go MXR or TC though... its very clean, maintains and enhances your guitars shimmering top end, and has a ludicrous amount of gain on tap that's very consistent in frequency response thru the single knob's sweep due to its unique gain circuitry

I just find that really it doesn't really fatten the sound significantly and at higher settings it is just a really dull dark mess that ruins the tone. At high volumes it is pretty good though. I may try out the Zvex, sounds cool

Good power enhancement during hard moments

Good enahncer for a drive. It gives different color without altering too much low ends. It gives a more metallic sound to the bass

Excellent pedal

This pedal is awesome. I use it basically as an overdrive, with the knob at 10. It almost sounds like a fuzz if my amp gain is up. It's an awesome pedal man. Get it used, it's like $30.

Nice one!

Excellent pedal. Used it with my Orange TH30 as well as mith my Vox AC30 and this thing rocks!! Tightens the sound and makes it fatter. Well built an small.
