C'mon, it's the Tube Screamer.
It literally makes the amp scream. A good, well-balanced amount of additional power to the sound. I like how you can control the tone of the overdrive, turning it to more low-end kills off some of the screeching when I stop playing. Overall, a great addition to a tube-based rig.

yes, everyone needs to own a TS9 for at least 2 years

Great pedal. Must have for an overdrive
Love this pedal. It gives me the right amount of boost and tone for the stuff we do. Built like a tank and sounds incredible.
Best Overdrive Pedal
Time and tested for decades. The TS9 (and the TS9DX) is my go to OD. Never leaves my pedal board.

The sound
Very distinctive sound, great for solos, but completely sucks all the low end out of your guitar tone and needs to be way to funking loud to get a good sound out of it

Not as good as the 808, IMO
This pedal is great for some classic rock overdrive, light overdrive punk music (Green Day), as a gain/mid boost, and is just very versatile overall. Very SLIGHTLY darker tone than the 808. The only reason anybody would choose one over the other is for personal preference.

Man the original ts9
My ts9 is from the 80s. Looks like crap but it always works. This is such a classic so i dont feel i have to write that much

I had an 80s one from the very early 90s until about a decade ago when I gave it away as an xmas gift.... ever notice the TS9 reissues are brighter? You can set them to sound the same but there's more treble at equal tone/gain/volume settings

I have only had the opportunity to compare the old and new 808. In my opinion the old one is the best because of the tightening of the bottom end. I have heard that the new ts9's have the problem you describe but i haven't heard it my self
Not bad...not great
It's a little bit thin compared to the old version obviously, but not bad. I still use it on a few things- it has a pretty good tone to it. Not a bad "go-to" pedal.

In this Premier Guitar rig rundown, Slash's guitar tech shows a TS-9 Tube Screamer from Ibanez on his board for the Orgy of the Damned tour. He says:
And then we have an Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer, which you know, that's made famous by Stevie Ray Vaughan was a big proponent of those and then that's a very very popular you know. It's an overdrive pedal, it's not quite a distortion. Like if you put it into a clean amp you'd still be missing a little bit, but that will drive a little bit dirty head into a great luxurious big sound. Great overdrive.
Used on “Ride the Lightning” as a replacement for the ProCo Rat which was stolen in 1984.
