Giulio Chiarenza
Equipboard Cofounder
Giulio Chiarenza is the co-founder of Equipboard, where he merges a lifelong obsession with music gear and a deep technical background. Born in Italy and raised in the U.S., Giulio has been a multi-instrumentalist since childhood, with experience across guitar, piano, and drums. He earned a Computer Science degree from The University of Texas at Austin, laying the foundation for a career at the intersection of music and technology.
Before launching Equipboard, Giulio explored the electronic music world as a producer and remixer, releasing original tracks under a San Francisco-based EDM label. That blend of creative instinct and analytical thinking led him to co-create Equipboard in 2013 - a platform designed to help musicians discover, compare, and choose the gear that shapes their sound.
Today, he steers the vision of Equipboard alongside his co-founder Michael Pierce, leads the technical direction of the platform as CTO, and remains deeply involved in editorial and gear testing. Giulio applies decades of real-world experience to every piece of content, having worked with hundreds of instruments, effects, and recording tools over the years.
When he's not writing code or evaluating gear, Giulio’s taste in music shifts with the moment - from electronic to hip-hop, jazz, indie rock, and beyond. His trusted companion in the studio? A vintage 1978 Fender Telecaster Custom, paired with whatever synths or pedals currently have his curiosity.
