Michael Pierce
Equipboard Cofounder
As the co-founder of Equipboard, Michael R. Pierce brings over 25 years of dedicated, hands-on experience to the world of music gear. His journey began at age 15 with a Fender Stratocaster, evolving into a lifelong pursuit of mastering tone, technique, and understanding the intricate relationship between musicians and their instruments. Michael's expertise is rooted in formal training across guitar, piano, and trumpet, coupled with extensive real-world application in playing, recording, and experimenting with a vast array of equipment.
In 2013, Michael channeled his passion for music, technology, and community into co-founding Equipboard, a platform dedicated to helping musicians discover and compare the music gear used by artists globally. This venture was a natural progression after his graduation from The University of Texas at Austin, combining academic rigor with practical industry innovation.
Michael’s musical influences span the rich tapestry of classic rock, blues, hip-hop, and Texas roots music, drawing inspiration from legends like ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Willie Nelson, R.L. Burnside, and Wu-Tang Clan. This diverse background informs his comprehensive approach to gear analysis. He actively utilizes and can speak to the nuances of his current rig, which includes a Fender American Original ‘50s Telecaster, an Analogman King of Tone, a Strymon Flint, and a Fender ‘57 Custom Champ amplifier.
